HCL Tree Viewer
Explore HCL as a collapsible tree of keys and values. Free, and runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded, stored or sent to a server.
About Tree Viewer
A document is easier to understand as a shape than as text. This parses JSON, XML, YAML, TOML, TOON, INI, .env, .properties and HCL into one node model and renders it as a collapsible tree, with the type of every node and the child count of every branch.
It is the fastest way to answer “what is actually in this response” — which keys exist, how deeply the structure nests, whether that field is an array of objects or an object of arrays. The same tree is also emitted as indented text, so it can be pasted into a ticket or a commit message.
Where it helps
- One tree model for every format, so XML attributes and JSON keys read the same way.
- Branches collapse, which makes a large document navigable instead of overwhelming.
- Node, leaf and depth counts quantify what you are looking at.
- The text version copies cleanly into a terminal, a ticket or a code review.
Limits
- It is a viewer, not an editor — nothing here changes the document.
- Very large documents produce a very large tree; the counts will tell you before you scroll.
- Whitespace-only text nodes are dropped from markup so the shape stays legible.
- Long values are truncated in the tree; the full text lives in the document itself.
Frequently asked questions
How are XML attributes shown?
As @name children of their element, listed before the element's own children, which is how XPath addresses them too.
Why do some text nodes not appear?
Whitespace-only text between elements is formatting, not content, so it is left out. Text with actual content is always shown.
Can I search within the tree?
Use your browser's find, or the Path Finder when you want to select nodes by expression rather than by eye.
What does the number beside a branch mean?
How many direct children it has — attributes included for markup.
