Open Graph Meta Tag Generator
Social card tags for Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack and X. Free, and runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded, stored or sent to a server.
About Open Graph Generator
The tags that decide what a link looks like when it is pasted into Slack, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Facebook or X: a title, a description, an image and a card type. Without them the preview is whatever the network scrapes, which is usually the navigation bar and a logo.
The preview here draws the card the way a network would, so an image that is missing, insecure or wrongly shaped is visible before anyone shares the page. Aim for 1200 × 630 pixels — that is the shape every network crops towards — and serve it over https, because most of them will not fetch an insecure image at all.
Twitter reads the Open Graph tags when its own are absent, so the twitter:* tags written here only cover what genuinely differs: the card type and the account.
The result is graded on the same scale as the rest of the category: a missing image, an insecure one, or a title a card will cut each take their share off the score, and the findings underneath say which.
Where it helps
- Writes the Open Graph and Twitter tags together, without duplicating what Twitter already inherits.
- Draws the card so a missing or insecure image is obvious before the link is shared.
- Names the image size that works across networks rather than leaving it to be discovered.
- Local, so an unpublished announcement is not sent to anyone.
Limits
- Networks cache aggressively: after changing the tags you usually have to re-scrape the URL in their own debugger before the new card appears.
- The preview is an approximation — each network crops and truncates slightly differently.
- It cannot check that the image URL resolves, because the page fetching it would be this browser rather than the network.
- Some platforms need extra tags — article:published_time, product:price — that are outside what is written here.
Frequently asked questions
What image size should I use?
1200 × 630 pixels, under about 5 MB, in PNG or JPEG. That ratio is what Facebook, LinkedIn and Slack all crop towards.
Why is my old preview still showing?
The network cached it. Facebook's Sharing Debugger, LinkedIn's Post Inspector and X's card validator all have a re-scrape button; Slack refreshes when the cache expires.
Do I need both og: and twitter: tags?
Not for most fields — X falls back to Open Graph. You need twitter:card to choose the layout, and twitter:site to attribute the account.
Does any of this affect ranking?
No. It affects whether anyone clicks the link when it is shared, which is a different and often larger number.
