About Area Converter
Converts an area between metric units (square centimetres, square metres, hectares, square kilometres) and imperial ones (square inches, square feet, square yards, acres, square miles). Every unit is shown at once from a single value.
An area unit is a length unit squared, so the factors grow faster than people expect: a metre is about 3.3 feet, but a square metre is about 10.8 square feet. The factors here are the exact squares of the legal length definitions, and an acre is exactly 43,560 square feet.

How many square feet are in a square metre?
About 10.764. A foot is 0.3048 m exactly, so a square foot is 0.09290304 m², and a square metre is 1 divided by that.
How big is a hectare?
10,000 m², a square 100 metres on each side. That is about 2.47 acres, or a little larger than a football pitch.
Why does the square feet figure look so much bigger than the metres one?
Because the difference between the units is squared. A metre is 3.28 feet, so a square metre is 3.28 × 3.28, about 10.76 square feet.
