About GST Calculator

GST at any of the Indian slab rates, in both directions: add it to a price that does not include it, or pull it back out of one that does. Taking it out is the half that goes wrong most often — a price including 18% is the price divided by 1.18, not the price less 18%.

Within a state the tax is charged as two halves, CGST to the centre and SGST to the state; between states it is a single IGST at the full rate. The result shows whichever applies, so an invoice can be written straight from it.

The rate is typed rather than picked from a list, because a list goes stale every time the GST Council moves something between slabs. The statutory slabs are 0.25, 3, 5, 12, 18 and 28 percent, and the field says so.

Where it helps

  • Works in both directions, including the reverse calculation people usually get wrong.
  • Splits the tax into CGST and SGST, or shows IGST for an interstate supply.
  • Takes any rate, so a slab that has just changed does not have to wait for this tool to catch up.
  • Runs locally, so invoice amounts are not sent anywhere.

Limits

  • It calculates the tax; it does not know your HSN code, your place of supply or whether a reverse charge applies.
  • Cess on some goods — cars, tobacco, aerated drinks — is charged on top and is not included.
  • Rates change with the GST Council; check the current slab for what you are selling.
  • It is arithmetic, not tax advice.

Frequently asked questions

How do I take GST out of a price?

Divide by 1 plus the rate: an 18% inclusive price divided by 1.18. Subtracting 18% gives a different, wrong answer — set the direction here and it does it properly.

When is it IGST rather than CGST and SGST?

When the supply crosses a state line. Within a state it is split half to the centre and half to the state; between states it is one tax at the full rate.

Which slab applies to my product?

That depends on the HSN classification, which this tool does not know. Look the code up, then set the rate here.
