Passport Size Photo Maker

Passport and visa photos at each country's size, with head guides and a print sheet. Free, and runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

About Passport Photo Maker

Makes a passport or visa photo at the size the issuing country asks for. Choose the country and the photo is framed at that print size — 2 × 2 inches for the United States, 35 × 45 mm for the UK, the Schengen countries, India, Australia and others, 50 × 70 mm for Canada, 33 × 48 mm for China, 35 × 50 mm for Malaysia, 43 × 55 mm for the UAE, 40 × 60 mm for Saudi Arabia — or enter a custom size for anything not listed.

The frame carries the two guides the rules are actually written in: a line for the top of the head and a band the chin has to fall inside, set from the country's allowed head height. Drag the photo, zoom it and straighten it until the head sits between them, and what you see is what prints.

It downloads the single photo at 300 or 600 dpi, and a sheet of copies laid out on a 4 × 6 in photo print, a 5 × 7, A4 or US Letter with a hairline to cut along — the cheapest way to get prints is one standard photo from any printing kiosk, cut into six. The resolution is written into the file, so printing at actual size gives the right size.

A plain wall behind the head can be replaced with white, light grey or cream, which is what most rejections for background come down to. Everything happens in this tab: the photo is never uploaded.

Where it helps

  • Sizes and head-height guides for the common passport and visa formats, plus a custom size.
  • Drag, zoom and straighten against the guides, with the final print exactly what the frame shows.
  • A print sheet for 4 × 6 in, 5 × 7 in, A4 or Letter, with cut lines, in whichever orientation fits more.
  • The print resolution is written into the file, so it prints at the right size rather than at a guessed one.
  • Runs entirely in the browser; a photo of your face is never uploaded.

Limits

  • It cannot judge expression, lighting, glasses or whether the eyes are open — the rules check those, and so should you.
  • The background replacement works on a plain, evenly lit wall; hair against a busy background will not come out cleanly.
  • Requirements change, so check the issuing office's current rules before printing; each listed country links to them where it can.
  • Some online applications ask for a file size limit or a particular pixel size; check the downloaded file against it.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a passport photo?

It depends on the country. The United States uses 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm); the UK, the Schengen countries, India, Australia, Japan and many others use 35 × 45 mm; Canada uses 50 × 70 mm, China 33 × 48 mm, Malaysia 35 × 50 mm, the UAE 43 × 55 mm and Saudi Arabia 40 × 60 mm.

How do I print a passport photo at home or at a kiosk?

Download the print sheet for the paper you are using and print it at actual size — 100%, with "fit to page" turned off. A 4 × 6 in sheet printed at any photo kiosk is usually the cheapest way, and gives six 35 × 45 mm photos to cut out.

Where should the head be in the photo?

The rules give a range for the height of the head, from the chin to the top of the hair — for example 29 to 34 mm on a UK photo. Put the top of the hair on the line and let the chin land in the shaded band, and the head is within that range.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The photo is read, positioned and printed by your browser; nothing about it is sent to a server.
