About Posterize PDF

Tiles a large page across several printable sheets, so a poster, a plan or a large diagram can be printed on ordinary paper and taped together. Choose the paper you actually have and the grid is worked out from the page: an A1 drawing onto A4 is four across and four down.

The overlap is what makes it assemblable. Without it, two tiles meet at an exact line, and printers are not exact — every join shows a hairline of white or a visible step. With a ten-millimetre overlap each tile repeats a strip of its neighbour, so the sheets are trimmed to the join and taped with a margin for error.

Print at 100%. Any "fit to page" or "shrink oversized pages" setting scales each tile independently of the others, and nothing will line up — which is the single most common reason a home-printed poster does not assemble.

Where it helps

  • Works out the grid from the page size and the paper you chose, rather than asking you to.
  • The overlap is a real measurement in millimetres, on inner edges only.
  • Tiles are embedded page content, so text and vector artwork stay sharp at any size.
  • Reports the grid and the tile size before you commit a stack of paper to it.
  • The document stays in your browser.

Limits

  • No crop marks or assembly guides are drawn; the overlap is the only alignment aid.
  • The grid comes from the first page, so a document with mixed page sizes tiles inconsistently.
  • Printing at anything other than 100% breaks the alignment completely.
  • A very large page onto small paper produces a great many sheets — the tool refuses past a hundred per page.
  • Password-protected files must be unlocked first.

Frequently asked questions

How much overlap should I use?

Ten millimetres is comfortable for taping by hand. Five is enough if you are careful, and zero is right only if the sheets will be trimmed on a proper cutter and butted together.

Why do my tiles not line up?

Almost always the print dialog: "fit to page", "shrink oversized pages" and "scale to fit" all resize each sheet independently. Print at 100% — actual size — and the overlap does the rest.

Is the text still sharp?

Yes. Nothing is rendered to pixels: each tile draws the real page content at its original scale, so text is as sharp as your printer can manage.

How do I make the poster in the first place?

Any tool that exports a large PDF page. If what you have is an image, the Images to PDF tool will make a page from it at whatever size you need, and this will tile that.
