Add Blank Pages to PDF

Insert empty pages anywhere in a PDF. Free, and runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded, stored or sent to a server.

About Add Blank Pages

Inserts empty pages: a separator between documents in a bundle, a facing blank so a chapter starts on a right-hand page, or the padding a double-sided print run needs so the next document does not begin on the back of the last one.

Positions are read against the original document. "After pages 2 and 5" means the second and fifth pages of the file you started with, not whatever ends up in those positions once the first blank has shifted everything along. Inserting from the back forwards is what makes that true, and it is the difference between a feature and a puzzle.

A blank page matches the size of the page before it unless you pick a sheet, which is what keeps a mixed-size document consistent — a blank A4 dropped into a run of Letter pages is visible the moment it is printed.

Where it helps

  • Positions are read against the original, so naming several places works the way it reads.
  • Blank pages match the size of the page they follow, keeping a mixed-size document consistent.
  • Up to twenty blanks at each position, for separating sections rather than pages.
  • Nothing else in the document is touched or re-rendered.
  • The file stays in your browser.

Limits

  • Bookmarks and internal links are not renumbered, so links past an insertion point now land one page early.
  • A blank page is genuinely empty — there is no "this page intentionally left blank" line, which some formal documents require.
  • It cannot insert before an arbitrary page and after another in the same run with different sizes.
  • Password-protected files must be unlocked first.

Frequently asked questions

Are the positions before or after insertion?

Before. Every position you name refers to the document as it was when you chose the file, which is why naming 2, 5, 9 inserts after the original second, fifth and ninth pages rather than drifting along as each blank is added.

Why would I add a blank page at all?

Double-sided printing, mostly. An odd number of pages means the next document starts on the back of the last sheet; a trailing blank prevents it. The other common reason is bundling, where a blank marks the boundary between documents.

Can I put text on the blank page?

Not here. Insert it, then use the Header & Footer or Watermark tool to write on it — a blank page is a normal page once it exists.

Does a blank page make the file much bigger?

No. An empty page is a few hundred bytes: a size, a rotation and no content stream.
