Favicon Generator (ICO & PNG)

Build favicon PNGs and a multi-size .ico. Free, and runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded, stored or sent to a server.

About Favicon Generator

One source image produces the whole set: 16, 32 and 48 pixel PNGs bundled into a multi-size .ico, plus 180 pixel Apple touch icon and 192 and 512 pixel PNGs for web app manifests. The HTML link tags come with it, so nothing has to be remembered.

The 16-pixel icon is the one that decides whether this works. A logo that reads beautifully on a business card turns to mush at that size, so favicons are usually a simplified mark — a single letter, a shape, the distinctive part of the logo rather than all of it.

Where it helps

  • Every size modern browsers, iOS and Android actually ask for.
  • A real multi-size .ico, not a renamed PNG.
  • Ready-to-paste HTML link tags.
  • Generated locally, so unreleased branding stays private.

Limits

  • Downscaling is mechanical: a detailed logo will not become legible at 16 pixels by itself.
  • A square source is assumed; other aspect ratios are fitted rather than cropped intelligently.
  • SVG favicons, which some browsers prefer, are not produced.
  • Dark and light theme variants are not generated — one icon has to work on both.

Frequently asked questions

What should I upload?

A square image, at least 512 pixels, with generous margins and no fine detail. Simpler marks always win at favicon sizes.

Do I still need a .ico file?

It remains the most compatible fallback and costs nothing, so yes — serve it from the site root alongside the PNGs.

Why does my favicon not update?

Browsers cache favicons aggressively. Hard-reload, or add a version query string to the link tag.

Where do the files go?

In the site root, with the supplied link tags in <head>. The 192 and 512 pixel PNGs belong in your web app manifest.
