About Sign PDF

Puts a signature on a page: a name typed in a serif italic, or a picture of your own signature scanned or photographed. Today's date goes underneath unless you turn it off, and a line for a job title or a reference can go under that.

Be clear about what this is. It draws a signature onto the page, exactly as pasting a scanned signature into a document does. It is not a cryptographic signature: it carries no certificate, proves nothing about who applied it, and does not show whether the document changed afterwards. For an agreement that has to stand up, use a service that issues a certificate and records an audit trail.

What it is good for is the ordinary case — a form, a delivery note, an internal approval — where a visible signature is what somebody is asking for, and where uploading the document to sign it would be the wrong trade.

Where it helps

  • A typed name or a picture of a real signature, with today's date added automatically.
  • The page, the corner, the size and the margin are all yours to set.
  • The document and the signature image never leave your browser.
  • The result is previewed, so a signature landing over the text is caught before you send it.

Limits

  • This is a drawn signature, not a digital one: no certificate, no proof of identity, no tamper detection.
  • It cannot fill in an existing signature form field — it draws on top of the page.
  • Signature pictures have to be PNG or JPEG.
  • A typed signature uses a standard PDF font, so it looks typed, because it is.

Frequently asked questions

Is this legally binding?

That depends on your jurisdiction and on what the other party requires, and this tool gives you no way to prove anything about the signature. Where a signed image is accepted — many everyday forms — it is fine. Where a certified signature is required, use a service that issues one.

Can someone tell the document was changed after signing?

No, and that is the difference between this and a digital signature. A cryptographic signature breaks when the file is edited; a drawn one cannot.

How do I get a picture of my signature?

Sign a white sheet of paper, photograph or scan it, and remove the background — the Background Remover here will do it — then save it as a PNG.

Can I sign every page?

Yes, choose "Every page", or name specific ones. Initialling every page and signing the last is a common pattern.
