Split PDF by Bookmarks

Split a PDF into one file per bookmark or chapter. Free, and runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded, stored or sent to a server.

About Split PDF

Cuts a PDF into smaller documents: just the pages you name, one file per page, a file every so many pages, or a cut after each page you list. Pages are copied rather than redrawn, so each piece keeps the text, fonts and images the original had.

Page ranges are written the way people actually write them — 1-3, 7, 12- takes the first three pages, the seventh, and everything from the twelfth to the end, and the words first and last work wherever a number does. When a split produces more than one file they come back as a zip, with the first twenty also offered on their own.

Where it helps

  • Splits at the document's own bookmarks, which describes where one document ends and the next begins better than any page count.
  • Four ways to cut, covering ranges, single pages, fixed batches and cuts at named pages.
  • Ranges are written naturally, including open-ended ones and the words first and last.
  • Each piece keeps the original's text and images rather than being rasterised.
  • Everything happens in your browser, so a confidential document stays on your machine.

Limits

  • Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first.
  • Bookmarks and form fields are not carried into the pieces.
  • Producing more than 500 files in one run is refused, because a browser tab cannot hold them.
  • Only the first twenty files are offered individually; the rest are in the zip.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write the page ranges?

Separate them with commas: "1-3, 7, 12-". An open end means "to the last page", and the words first and last stand in for the numbers.

Can I get one file per page?

Yes — choose that mode and every page comes back as its own PDF, gathered into a zip.

Does splitting reduce quality?

No. Pages are copied as they are, so text stays text and images keep their resolution.

What does splitting after a page mean?

Naming "4, 9" cuts the document into pages 1-4, 5-9 and 10 onwards — useful when a file holds several documents run together.
