Trim Image Border

Trim a flat border or whitespace from around an image automatically. Free, and runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded or stored.

About Crop Image

Two ways to cut. Give a rectangle — in pixels or as a percentage, from the top left, optionally locked to a shape like 1:1 or 16:9 — or let it trim the flat border away and keep whatever is actually in the picture.

The trim is the one worth knowing about. A screenshot with a white margin, a scan with a grey edge, a logo exported with padding around it: it reads in from the corner, finds where the colour stops being uniform, and cuts there. The tolerance decides how much variation still counts as border, which matters because a scan is never quite one colour.

A shape preset shrinks the rectangle rather than growing it, so what you get always still fits inside the picture, and everything is clamped to the edges rather than failing.

Where it helps

  • Crops by pixels or by percentage, so the same numbers work on any size of picture.
  • Shape presets for the ratios that actually get used, centred on the rectangle you gave.
  • Trims a flat border automatically, which is the tedious half of preparing screenshots.
  • Says how much of the picture survived, so a mistyped number is obvious.
  • Runs locally on anything it can read, HEIC and SVG included.

Limits

  • There is no drag-a-box preview: the rectangle is typed, and the result is what tells you whether it was right.
  • The trim needs a genuinely flat border — a photograph with a soft vignette will not trim.
  • Re-encoding drops EXIF and colour profiles.
  • One picture at a time.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if my rectangle runs off the edge?

It is pulled back inside. The size you asked for is kept where it can be, and the position moves rather than the crop failing.

Why did nothing get trimmed?

The border is not uniform enough. Raise the tolerance a few points at a time — a scan or a screenshot with a gradient needs more than a flat export does.

Can I crop to a ratio without giving a size?

Yes. Leave the width and height at zero, pick a shape, and the largest rectangle of that shape is taken from the middle.

Does cropping lose quality?

The pixels that survive are untouched, but re-encoding a JPEG always costs a little. Save as PNG or WebP if the picture will be edited again.
